Rep. McCarthy Calls Dems House COVID Relief Package ‘Corrupt’

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Sunday called the House Democrats’ COVID-19 relief plan “corrupt,” lamenting “the socialists have brought the swamp back.”

In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” McCarthy said “the real focus here should be putting [people] back to work, back to school and back to health. This bill does not do it.”

“This thing is just so corrupt, so costly. And you look at it, it’s so liberal,” he said.

“I believe if you look forward, their agenda is going so far,” he said of Democrats. “That’s what the bill shows. The swamp is back in Washington and that’s what we have to fight and I think we’re going to put up a pretty good fight. You wait, I believe in a short time bframe you’re going to watch us winning.”

“The future for the Democrats is Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo, [California Gov.] Gavin Newsom, [California Rep.] Eric Swalwell. Think about the Republicans, we’ve got Sen. Tim Scott, [R-S.C.] [South Dakota Gov.] Kristi Noem, [Florida] Gov. Ron DeSantis. I think our ideas have proven …we help people, we keep states open.”

McCarthy also advocated for election reform, starting with H.R, 1, a 2019 law to expand voting right, reduce the influence of money in politics and limit gerrymandering.

“This is most important for Nancy Pelosi to hold onto her power,” he said, “What we have to do is people lose their confidence in elections, you break society down and we will lose America as we know it….You have to clean up the rolls. In [Los Angeles] they have more than 1 million people on their rolls where they don’t have people that age that have that many people there. You have to make sure you clean up the rolls. We have to make sure there’s integrity… That’s why H.R,-1 should be voted down.”
