(KMJ) – Atwater’s Castle Air Museum is about to add a new piece to its collection of historic aircraft.

The North Valley site is partnering with the Pima Air Museum in Tuscon, Arizona to bring a Grumman A-6E Intruder to the region.  The aircraft, numbered 159579, is the next to last of its type to ever serve in the U.S. Navy.  And it still bears the colors of VA-196, which was the squadron written about in the novel, “Flight of the Intruder.”

Castle Air Museum expects delivery of this Intruder in about three weeks.  The delay is necessary as it awaits permits for was is considered a super size load (53 feet long and 25 feet in width) from the states of both Arizona and California.
