(KMJ) – You will have to wait a little longer to access certain sites, trails and roads within the Sierra National Forest.

The U.S Department of Agriculture says as a result of existing tree mortality and hazards from the Creek Fire and a recent Mono Wind event, a significant amount of acreage with the Forest will remain closed to public access.

The SNF release on the closure extension adds, “Until restoration projects are complete, several recreational sites, roads and trails will remain closed in order to protect the public from hazards associated with occupancy in direct proximity of dead standing trees, which could result in property damage and/or injury.”

Forest officials say closure signs and barricades will remain in place.  And those will be monitored by law enforcement.

This closure extension within the Sierra National Forest will now remain in effect until March 19th.
