FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A 39-year-old man has been arrested after he expressed his desire to rape a young girl to an undercover detective, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says that John Plappert of Stockton arranged to meet up with a 9-year-old girl in Fresno County on Wednesday night.
Plappert didn’t realize the person who he was making those plans with was an undercover detective with the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
Once meeting up with the girl, the Sheriff’s Office says that Plappert planned to rape her as the detective watched.
He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail and faces charges related to arranging to meet with a minor to engage in sex.
His bail is set at $35,000.
The Sheriff’s Office says that no actual child was ever used or placed into danger during this operation.
The ICAC Task Force is made up of 64 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies spread throughout nine counties in the Central Valley.
ICAC detectives constantly monitor all social media platforms for potential child predators.
In early August, ICAC tracked down and arrested 34 men during “Operation COVID Chat Down,” which targeted online predators as internet usage increased during the lockdown.
Report any suspicious behavior right away to law enforcement or file a cyber tip through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
