(KMJ) – The body of a Valley soldier killed in a rocket attack in Iraq back in mid-March is finally home.
Just days after 27-year old Army Specialist Juan Covarrubias was killed at Camp Taji, the coronavirus forced a temporary halt to return flights for fallen soldiers. But, Wednesday the remains of the Hanford native arrived via an Angel Flight at Visalia Airport from Dover Air Force Base.
A military procession then escorted his hearse to a funeral home in Hanford. There, the Covarrubias family says a viewing and rosary will take place Friday.
Army Specialist Juan Miguel Mendez Covarrubias will then be laid to rest with full military honors at a funeral Saturday.
