OAKHURST, CA (KMJ) – Madera Sheriff’s deputies respond after an officer involved shooting in Oakhurst.
The Madera County Sheriff’s office says a detective was involved in the shooting by Hwy 41/ Road 426.
The call came in around 10 a.m. Thursday morning about a person acting erratically in the area.
The responding detective was assigned to Oakhurst and he was the first person on scene.
The sheriff’s office says the detective first tried to talk to the suspect but then they got into a fight.
The sheriff’s office says the detective fired his weapon, striking the suspect.
During the altercation, the deputy suffered “serious” injures.
Both the suspect and the detective were flown to fresno hospitals.
Detective was not shot, but was hurt, though his injuries weren’t immediately known.
