FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A family in Mississippi wants to warn other parents after hackers gained access to their young daughter through their Ring Camera.
Ashley LeMay works as a nurse, and put a ring video camera inside her daughter’s room as a way to keep an eye on her three girls while she was working night shifts.
The camera had been active only few days, when her 8-year-old daughter Alyssa started hearing strange noises coming from her room.
LeMay said the male voice taunted the little girl, playing music – Tiptoe Through the Tulips, using swear words, and instructing her to engage in destructive behavior.
The family looked at the Ring video and made the alarming discovery that a man had been watching their daughter in her room.
When the girl’s father entered the room, the man stopped.
LeMay worries what the person might have seen her daughter doing in what she thought was the privacy of her room.
LeMay said she did not set up two-factor authentication, which Ring says helps add another level of protection.
Ring says they are investigating this issue.
