FRESNO (KMJ) – The man who nearly shot President Ronald Reagan to death is looking for work in California, in the entertainment industry.

John Hinckley Jr., the man who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton in 1981, says he’s interested in getting a job in the music industry, possibly even here in California.

Hinckley is 64 now, his lawyer told a judge at a court hearing Tuesday in Washington, DC, what Hinckley is planning. But a prosecutor said that would give the government “great pause.”

Hinckley spent decades living at a psychiatric hospital after being found not guilty by reason of insanity in Reagan’s shooting.

Hinckley currently lives at his mom’s place in Virginia, under a set of conditions including regular visits with mental health professionals, but his attorneys hope to see those terms loosened.
