Fresno County Warns of Rabid Bats

FRESNO (KMJ) – The Fresno County Department of Public Health is warning people to stay away from bats, because they could have rabies, and to call the department if they interact with one.

They’re also reminding folks, if you see a dead or injured bat, leave it alone, do not attempt to pick up or touch the bat.

Bites or scratches from bats often go undetected.

Health officials routinely test for and find rabid bats, typically during the summer months.

Rabies remains a concern among wild mammals in Fresno county, most especially among bats and skunks.
