Deputy Erickson Improving, Suspected Shooter Charged

(KMJ)  Michael James Congdon (57, of Clovis) has been charged in a Felony Complaint with the Attempted Murder of a Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy, as well as other associated charges, after firing multiple rounds from
a semiautomatic rifle at Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy John Erickson and a civilian ride-along on an isolated road near Tollhouse on Tuesday morning, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

Deputy Erickson continues to recover from his wounds and has been upgraded to “good” condition.

The Complaint, filed in Fresno County Superior Court alleges the felony crimes of:
1.) Attempted Willful, Deliberate, Premeditated Murder of Deputy Erickson with the Use of a Firearm
Causing Great Bodily Injury to Deputy Erickson.
2.) Attempted Willful, Deliberate, Premeditated Murder of the civilian ride-along with the Use of a
Firearm Causing Great Bodily Injury to Deputy Erickson.
3.) Shooting at an Occupied Motor Vehicle Causing Great Bodily Injury.
4.) Assault on a Peace Officer with a Semiautomatic Firearm causing Great Bodily Injury.
5.) Cruelty to an Animal.

If convicted of the charges and special allegations, Congdon faces a sentence of over 64 years to life in custody.

Congdon was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and remains in custody at the Fresno County Jail. He is scheduled to appear for his Arraignment on Monday, July 8.
