(KMJ) – A suspected home burglar is chased by that home’s owner and then jumps into the Saint John’s River in an attempt to avoid capture by Visalia Police.
This all began around 3 p.m. Saturday when a man says he caught 40-year old Michael Hernandez trying to break into his home near Loves Lane and Mill Creek. He chased the man toward the river and officers then joined the search for him not long thereafter.
Officers say Hernandez then jump into the Saint John’s River in an attempt to avoid capture. Visalia police used a K-9 to take him into custody. But they say Hernandez put up a struggle in knee-deep water.
He was eventually arrested and is now charged with suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest, and possession of meth.
