Woman Killed After Fleeing From CHP – Witnesses Wanted

MERCED (KMJ) — The CHP has put out an appeal for witnesses in the hit and run death of a woman described as fleeing from a traffic stop.

The incident happened on Highway 99 north of Franklin Road, an area north of Merced, on Wednesday March 20th around 8.40pm. The victim has been identified as 26 year old Carol Gisel Sanchez.

“She was stopped for weaving,” explained CHP Officer Eric Zuniga. “So the officer was doing a DUI investigation and at that time she exited her vehicle on foot and fled the scene.”

Sanchez was hit by passing vehicles and two involved in the crash stayed at the scene. Investigators later determined that more vehicles were involved and want the public’s help tracking others involved.

“We are looking for possibly a witness or someone who can give us more information.”

Anyone with information can contact Merced area CHP on (209) 356-6600 or after hours on (209) 356-2900.
