FRESNO (KMJ) — The driver of the Greyhound bus involved in a crash in Fresno on Sunday was both high on drugs and driving on a suspended license, according to CHP.

28 year old Ashton Castillo was arrested following the incident close to the Highway 99 and Highway 180 connector. Officers said he was trying to transition from the southbound highway to go east when he lost control, collided with the side wall, went across both lanes, before the bus came to a stop.

There were 35 passengers on board at the time. CHP said approximately 10 of them complained of pain while another person was taken to the hospital.

“His license status is suspended now,” explained Officer Victor Taylor. “It’s been effective since 3/21/19…that’s what we’re getting from the DMV.”

It is unknown why Greyhound allowed Castillo to continue work on Sunday after his license was suspended on Thursday. KMJ News has reached out to Greyhound for comment but has not received a response.

Castillo was arrested and charged with felony DUI and misdemeanor driving without a license.
