FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was attacked by a man with a machete is out of the hospital.
On May 3rd, Deputy Juan Serrano and other Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call of a man acting erratically inside of a home in the 12400 block of Dennison.
Deputies arrived, and a woman in the house told them she felt threatened by her son, 26-year-old Anthony Trujillo.
The mother told deputies Trujillo locked himself inside of a room in the back.
Deputies say the mother stated her son was not taking his medication and he had a history of mental illness.
Deputies ordered Trujilo to come out, and when he did, he was holding a large machete style knife and raised it above his head.
Trujillo started fighting with deputies, and struck Deputy Serrano with the machete in the hand and the head.
It ended with about six rounds being fired by Deputies.
Trujillo was shot in the chest and later died on scene.
Deputy Serrano was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sheriff Boudreaux visited with him and says he is in good spirits and on the road to recovery.
The officer-involved shooting continues to be investigated by the Visalia Police Department.
