FRESNO CA (KMJ) – Valley native and boxer Jose Ramirez is getting fore his Historic WBC World Championship Fight at Madison Square Garden.
A Press Conference was held Friday, at the Maya Cinema at Fresno State’s Campus Pointe.
Ramirez thanking God and his family says he’s prepared for the fight and his trip to New York for the March 17 main event against Amir Imam for the WBC junior welterweight title.
Ramirez is from Avenal and has been a strong supporter of the Central Valley, already received numerous honors for his efforts and advocacy with two congressional recognitions, along with the counties of Merced and Kings, and the cities of Avenal and Orange Cove celebrating his achievements.
He continues to promote agriculture and water in the San Joaquin Valley, and outside the ring the boxer is a champ in the “Fight for Water” with the water coalitions, and immigration rights with his family migrating from Mexico.
It was announced on Friday that he’s got the support of comic Paul Rodriguez and basket ball players the Lopez twins.
Local restaurant owner Bobby Salazar announced a new salsa in partnership with Ramirez, and Dave & Busters will show the WBC World Championship Fight.
The City of Fresno is behind him, and Fresno State President Joseph Castro announced an additional $5000 is going to the already $50,000 scholarship in Ramirez’s name.
