FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — More than half of U.S. employees feel that companies should not ask for their pay history, according to a new Harris poll.
Among other findings: 60 percent of women believe salary history should be left alone, compared to 48 percent of men.
A number of states and cities are considering making that public policy, as some experts believe it harms women, who, on average, earn less than their male counterparts.
Some fear that disclosing salary history during negotiations can harm their wage prospects.
