Study Examines Link Between Fructose Consumption, Asthma

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Pregnant mothers who consume large quantities of fructose, a widely-used sweetener, may double their child’s risk for asthma.

Researchers at Queen Mary University of London say fructose appears to trigger an immune response, which leads to inflammation in developing lungs.

Consumption has increased substantially in western counties over the past 3 decades.

Still, more research on the link is needed.
