FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Seeking to increase trust between communities and law enforcement, Democratic California Assemblyman Phil Ting of San Francisco has introduced a bill to make footage of police encounters believed to be of interest to the public more easily accessible.
Ting’s measure seeks clear guidelines for releasing such recordings up and down the entire state.
However, the California Sheriff’s Association disagrees, saying the decision should remain at the local level, given the variety of circumstances surrounding various investigations.
The proposal is scheduled for a hearing next week in the Senate Public Safety Committee.
