FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — States who’ve legalized recreational marijuana have seen an increase in car crashes.
That’s according the Highway Loss Data Institute, who says collision claims have gone up about 3 percent in the years following legalization.
Eight states — including California — as well as Washington, D.C. have made the drug legal for both recreational and medicinal use, although it remains illegal under federal law.
The institute says while alcohol remains one of the biggest concerns on the roadways, there are already proven strategies to combat it.
However, when it comes to marijuana and driving, there are many unanswered questions.
