Study Examines Effects of Moderate Alcohol Consumption

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Consuming even moderate amounts of alcohol can lead to a decline in brain function.

That’s according to a new study from the University of Oxford and University College London, which found over a 30-year period that memory and spatial navigation functions are negatively affected by prolonged drinking.

American guidelines suggest that 24.5 units of alcohol per week for men is a safe limit.

However, researchers say the brain’s structure can change at as few as 14 units.
