FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Gov. Jerry Brown has officially signed a controversial bill into law, which will raise the tax on gasoline and vehicle fees.
Brown and legislative Democrats hope to generate $52 billion over a decade, to repair crumbling roads and highways in addition to funding public transit projects.
Value will be factored into car fees, with the tax on fuel rising by 12 cents this November and going up to 19.5 cents by 2020.
However, independent research shows that likely won’t be enough to fund the severely aged infrastructure in the Golden State.
In addition, opponents in the state legislature are accusing top Democratic lawmakers of making illegal side deals, to gain support from legislators who were on the fence.
