FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – President Trump makes good on promises to build a wall between the US and Mexico and change immigrant policies.

On Wednesday, January 25th, President Trump signed orders to jumpstart construction of a border wall and cut funding for so-called sanctuary cities but not everyone is happy with his decision.

Mi Familia Vota is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of the Latino community, on issues from immigration to workers rights. Samuel Molina – Mi Familia Vota’s State Director -says he is disappointed.

“The decisions that were made today with these executive actions to ban refugees from individual counties – targeting Muslims, targeting immigrants – we understand he looks to continue with his campaign promise to build the wall. I believe this further divides us.” – Samuel Molina, Mi Familia Vota State Director.

Immigration lawyer Olga Grosh works with people here illegally – whether undocumented or in transitional status. She says the courts are overwhelmed and cases are already being sent out to the year 2020.

“Do we have infrastructure, revenue, funds and staff to immediately overnight deport 11 million people? This country does not have that.” – Olga Grosh, Immigration Attorney.

“It does take take time to deport people and it’s also going to flood our justice system, our court system because everybody has a right to due process so if the plan is to arrest millions of people and flood the court system that’s exactly what’s going to happen. It’s going to put a further burden on taxpayers – not to mention the wall is another burden on taxpayers that we would be paying for.” -Samual Molina, Mi Familia Vota State Director.

Molina says Mi Familia Vota will continue to fight back and rally for change.
