FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Citing the recent better-than-anticipated tax revenues, the SEIU Local 1000 is urging its members to demand a better contract than they’re being offered.
The Brown Administration is currently offering raises of 12 percent over 4 years.
However, the 95,000-member union claims that’s not good enough, saying a few months of higher revenues should mean more pay, amid rising housing and child care expenses.
Gov. Jerry Brown is exercising caution, as he prepares for a $4 billion shortfall if voters reject Proposition 55, which would extend the income tax increases approved 4 years ago.
The SEIU is indicating that it’s willing to strike over the disagreement.
