(KMJ) Big checks are cool by themselves. But, big checks are really cool because they also show that people care and can come through in a time of need – especially here in the Valley.
In September, NewsTalk 580/105.9 KMJ teamed with Gar Tootelian and Fresno-Madera Farm Credit for our 3rd Annual Feeding Families Fund Drive at The Market.
On Tuesday, the big check presentation took place at a central Fresno church as dozens of needy residents lined up to take home fresh produce and non-perishable goods made possible by the fund drive.
In all, generous KMJ listeners and local businesses managed to raise $231,000 in cash (thanks to a 50% match or $77,000 by Gar Tootelian).
The donations are enough for more than 1.5 million meals according to Community Food Bank CEO Andy Souza. “It’s not only the financial impact, it’s the third party affirmation that somebody says yes – we believe in the work of the food bank, we trust the work of the food bank and we’ll put our reputation next to that.”
Karen Musson with Gar Tootelian said “We are so honored to be able to raise this kind of money for the Community Food Bank, who in our opinion, does an outstanding job feeding our families and to help fill the gaps”.
Both Musson and Souza also thanked KMJ’s generous listeners.
