FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – 53 year old Luis Moreno was found guilty of murder – for a deadly drunken collision – on Wednesday.
A jury found Moreno guilty on all three felony counts – including second degree murder – for the collision that took place back in 2013. That’s when Moreno drove drunk on Friant Road and his pick-up plowied head-on into a car carrying 54 year old Blia Vang – a mother of eight children.
Moreno had numerous prior DUI convictions.
His own defense said Moreno had had 20 drinks and that his blood alcohol level was four times over the legal limit (registering a .36 two hours after the collision).
The prosecution said Moreno knew driving drunk was dangerous and that he had been told at Alcoholics Anonymous classes and he still drove under the influence. They made the case that Moreno had a conscious disregard for human life.
The maximum penalty is life behind bars. Moreno will be sentenced next month.
