FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested the driver who caused a crash at Blackstone and McKinley Avenues in Fresno on Wednesday.
36-year-old Stephen Yates was booked on felony hit-and-run and a probation violation. Around 10am, Yates was spotted driving recklessly and when deputies tried to stop him he allegedly took off in his vehicle.
A pursuit ensued – and after traveling up to speeds of 80 miles per hour – Yates allegedly hit a car at Blackstone and Clinton.
He got out, but soon got back in and drove off and struck a pick-up at Blackstone and McKinley, causing it to flip. The truck struck another car as well.
After trying to take off on foot, Yates was apprehended. 35-year-old Sonja Stogbauer was also issued an arrest citation for misdeameanor drug possession. She was the passenger in Yates’ car, and stayed in the vehicle.
Deputies found a BB gun, syringes and heroin. Yates is currently under post-release community supervision.
