(KMJ) Strong tides could have a major impact on the strength of earthquakes.
According to new publication in the Journal Nature Geoscience small quakes could become more powerful during big tides – like the ones that slam into the California coastline during full and new moons.
The theory is not exactly new, but now, scientists who worked on the project say this study is the first to show a statistical connection between tides and temblors.
The study was headed up by the top seismology professor at the Univ. of Tokyo.
