FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California Auditor Elaine Howle is criticizing the foster care system, for prescribing psychotropic drugs, in quantities and dosages that exceed state guidelines.
Howle’s latest report adds that counties, have failed to follow up the with prescribing doctors.
Nearly 12% of the more than 79,000 foster children in California were given psychotropic drugs, during fiscal 2014-15.
Studies suggest the figure is only between 4% and 10%, among non-foster children.
