The California Senate approved the farm overtime bill, which now sets up a final vote in the assembly.
The bill AB-1066, would require employers to pay farm workers overtime after 8 hours instead of the current ten hours then overtime pay.
The bill is authored by Democratic Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez of San Diego and is a do over from an earlier bill that was defeated in the assembly just a couple of months ago.
Major farm groups in California oppose the bill and think if it becomes law, employers will cut worker hours in order to avoid paying overtime.
