Gang Member Grazed by FPD Bullet

(KMJ)  A documented gang member with a lengthy criminal record is recovering after being grazed by a Fresno Police officer’s bullet.

FPD says the incident began when 35 year old Steven Sengkeo Sengsourygna pointed a gun at a neighbor’s head and threatened to kill him in southeast Fresno Saturday night.  As 911 calls came in, officers responded to the scene looking for the suspect who had left on foot.  The victim was not hurt.

As officers arrived in the area of MLK and Geneva, they received reports of an an Asian man raising his shirt showing witnesses a handgun in his waistband.

Investigators say the suspect then ran by their squad car and pointed the gun at the officer in the driver’s seat.  The officer, fearing for his life, ducked and fired several rounds at the suspect – through the windshield of the vehicle.  The suspect dropped the gun and ran through an apartment complex.  Officers found the weapon – which turned out to be a replica.

The suspect was found a few minutes later and taken into custody.  He was taken to CRMC for treatment to a graze wound to his head.

He will face numerous felony charges including making terrorist threats.  Sengourygna has spent time in jail for a long list of crimes over the years including burglary, robbery and car theft.

The officer who opened fire is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  This is the 7th officer-involved shooting for FPD in 2016.
