FRESNO (KMJ) – Fresno city council held a special meeting, Thursday July 28th, to call for more transparency in reporting water quality complaints.
City Councilmember Lee Brand introduced two measures to deal with ongoing water issues at homes in the Northeast part of the city.
“That water, at least as I’ve seen so far, accelerated the corrosion process. At ten years old pipes shouldn’t be falling apart, and we believe that’s part of the problem. There were some mistakes made by city officials And this is not, I don’t believe it’s a legal problem but a moral obligation to try to make some remedies.” – Lee Brand, City Fresno Councilmember
Brand introduced an amendment to create a temporary rebate and “first come – first serve” loan program for those homes affected that meet the city’s criteria.
Council will revisit the amendment and vote on it in 45-60 days, meanwhile the city began to take further steps by testing the water inside homes and analyzing results.
Brand also introduced a bill to ban the use of galvanized piping in all future construction within the City of Fresno, which was approved 6-0 by council.
