Study Finds Binge Watching TV Can Be Deadly

BINGE TV

FRESNO (KMJ) – A new study out of Japan finds binge watching TV can actually kill you

Researchers looked at the TV watching habits of more than 86,000 people.

The test subjects were between the ages of 40 and 79 between 1988 and 1990, and were followed over a 19-year period.

In all, 59 deaths from pulmonary embolisms were recorded.

For every extra two hours of TV watching per day, the risk of dying from a blood clot in the lungs was increased by 40 percent.

Watching five or more hours – each day – made people more than twice as likely to die of a fatal pulmonary embolism – than those watching less than 2 and a half hours of TV.

The actual risk might be even worse than the findings suggest, because of the number of deaths from the disease.

Research has led scientists to warn that watching back-to-back episodes – might be dangerous.

The danger is set to increase as people binge watch even more on streaming services.
