FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Foundation for Public Safety hosted kids from rural areas of Fresno County on Thursday, to teach them all about what they do.

About 100 students, ages 7 to 13, learned about the equipment being used by the Sheriff’s Department – like the helicopter and horses – and also met members of the different squads so that they’re more familiar with what the Sheriff’s Department does.

The Sheriff’s Department hosted kids from rural areas surrounding Fresno to get them familiar with the officers and the different parts of the department because they don’t see them as often as kids within the city do.

The “Career Day” is a part of the Sheriff’s Activity League Summer Program, which will also take the kids on field trips to the Chaffee Zoo and the Army National Guard Base
