FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Love, respect, communication, and honesty, are what most would say are the keys to a healthy marriage.
However, according to University of Michigan researchers, couples who drink together, report decreased negative marital quality.
More than 4,000 married couples were examined, who have been together for an average of 33 years.
The study’s authors say they’re not exactly sure why this is the case, but believe it may be that couples who do more leisure time activities together, improve their quality of marriage.
One thing to note: nearly 20 percent of the men, and 6 percent of the women in the study, are said to have substantial drinking issues.
