FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The vast majority of modern cars contain a plethora of technology.
From hands-free and GPS systems, to backup cameras and maintenance reminders, automobiles are, at least in theory, more reliable than ever.
But, while service intervals have become longer, vehicle breakdowns have risen to an all-time high.
Keyless systems can cut battery life, and leave a driver locked out of the car. Some low-profile tires, may be more easily damaged. Even with on-dash warnings, running out gas continues to be a problem.
AAA says last year it rescued a record 32 million drivers from such dilemmas.
Researchers say vehicles fewer than 5 years old, appear to have a higher rate of tire, key, and fuel-related issues, compared to older models.
