FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Women who lose weight may reduce their risk for developing cancer, as levels of cancer-related proteins decline.
A new study published in the journal Cancer Research says the proteins VEGF, PAI-1, and PEDF promote the growth of blood vessels, which help tumors thrive.
However, the more weight they lose, the further the levels of those proteins drop.
Experts say the risk reduction for certain cancers, can be as great as 20 percent.
