FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Golden State’s congressional delegation spent $3 million tax dollars in 2015 talking to their constituents.
About a third of that, according to an LA Times analysis, was spent in only 5 of the state’s 53 districts.
While the majority of congress members are using free or inexpensive forms of communication, the top spenders are using things like letters and fliers.
Republican Steve Knight of Palmdale spent more than $204,000, Democrat Ami Bera of Elk Grove spent over $190,000, followed by Democrat Norma Torres of Pamona, whose total for contacting constituents was nearly $185,000.
Here in the valley, Congressman Jeff Denham spent over $128,000 and David Valado spent over $65,000, compared to Devin Nunes’ just over $9,000, and Jim Costa’s $17.
However, some of the high figures are expected to change, as more congress members adopt new methods of communication, such as social media.
