FRESNO (KMJ) — The Fresno Police shooting of a man described as unarmed – continues to be the subject of intense scrutiny.
Attorneys representing the family of the man shot and killed by Fresno Police, identified as Dylan Noble, are now requesting an outside agency conduct the investigation.
Warren Paboojian and Stuart Chandler have sent a letter to Fresno County’s District Attorney, stating that although they “have the the utmost confidence in the district attorney’s office”, they’d like an independent investigation into the deadly shooting.
It comes as a video appearing to show the officers shooting at the 19 year old has been released by local media outlets. In it the rounds being fired are heard, but it is difficult to establish the entire course of events as the 26 seconds of footage shows only two shots being let off of a total of four. The Fresno PD bodycam video is yet to be officially released.
At the time of the officer involved shooting on June 25th, Fresno Police Deputy Chief Pat Farmer explained that the suspect didn’t respond to requests to get on the ground.
“When the officers asked to see his right hand, he would show his left. When he was asked to see his left hand, he would show his right”.
That’s when officers were forced to take action, as the suspect started walking towards the Police Officers.
“[He said] that he hated his life and made a fervent movement to the small of his back, at which time he was shot several times by officers at the scene”.
The 19 year old died later during surgery. Now attorneys representing his family want an outside agency to investigate what happened and are calling for the body camera footage to be publicly released.
“I have personally looked at the video”, reveals Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer. “Our detectives have, the District Attorney’s Office has”.
In a statement to KMJ news, the DA’s office reveals it’s confident it can conduct an impartial investigation and it will fully cooperate with any other agency that conducts its own review.
