FRESNO (KMJ) – Fresno Fire makes its first illegal fireworks bust of the season.
500 pounds of illegal fireworks were confiscated around noon on Thursday, June 30th, by the Fresno Fire Department’s investigation team.
The illegal fireworks were bought in Nevada with the intention of selling here in the Valley, but can be a fire hazard in an area that can too quickly catch fire.
“They haven’t passed the testing process of it being deemed ‘safe and sane’ – these fireworks are made to emit sparks and flame into the air, which go uncontrolled.” – RJ Perez, Fresno Fire Department Investigator.
Fire Investigator RJ Perez says the stash was found in a Central Fresno home at the 3052 block [3052] of West Pontiac by Marks.
The fireworks seized have a $5000 dollar street value, but Perez says the risk of reselling illegal fireworks just doesn’t pay.
He’s out a thousand for what he spent just as the purchase d for the fireworks and then $1250 for the fines.
Perez says this is just the beginning of Fresno Fire issuing citations.
“It doesn’t matter if they only have a few handfuls or if they have a truckload – the fine is still the same – $1200. – RJ Perez, Fresno Fire Department Investigator.
