FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A bill that called for limiting the sales of tobacco products to specified tobacco stores in California has died.
Back in May, sweeping tobacco regulations took effect in the Golden State, which raise the legal smoking age to 21 and treat vaping products like their traditional counterparts.
Proponents argued that they’ll curb underage tobacco use, and used the same argument for this latest effort to restrict where the products are sold.
Ultimately, it proved to be undesirable among lawmakers, and failed to get a vote during a committee hearing.
Opponents, including those in favor of other tobacco regulations, say restricting where they products are sold goes to far, and harms small businesses.
