FRESNO (KMJ) — The tenth Central Valley Honor Flight, has taken off with more than 60 veterans on board for their trip to Washington D.C. to tour the memorials dedicated to their service.
More than 60 veterans from eleven different counties are on board, representing Army, Navy, Marines, Merchant Marines, Army Air Corps, and Air Force.
“The average age of the World War 2 veterans is 94”, says President of the Central Valley Honor Flight Al Perry.
“By enlarge the World War 2 veterans…never talk about their experience in combat. This is for them a trip they didn’t expect, they go places they’ve never been and never could go were it not for us to provide that support”.
On their agenda while in Washington D.C. the sights they see will include the World War 2 memorial, the Korean War memorial, the Vietnam War memorial, and the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
The group will return to Fresno Yosemite International Wednesday at 6pm, for their homecoming celebration.
