FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A college education is usually associated with a better career, more money, and a higher quality of life.

However, a new study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health suggests that it may also by linked to a higher risk for brain cancer.

In examining data on more than 4.3 million people, researchers found that three types of brain tumors — meningioma — glioma — and acoustic neuroma — are associated with higher levels of education and better jobs.

Men who attended at least 3 years of college were 19 percent more likely be diagnosed with glioma, and women were 23 percent more likely.

But, previous research pertaining to dementia, shows that education and intellectual stimulation are good for the brain.
