FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Listening to sad music can be therapeutic.

A new study published in PLOS One says such compositions can help you lighten your mood, by evoking comforting, relatable memories.

However, the effect is not universal.

While older adults tend to gain pleasure from sad music, some young people and women may experience strong negative feelings.
