FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Despite the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been spent to combat obesity, the epidemic continues.
Updated figures published in the Journal of American Medical Association show 35 percent men, 40 percent of women, and 17 percent children are obese in the U.S.
The obesity rate among men hasn’t changed much; but, among women, it shot up 5 percent, during a 10-year period.
Experts say it’s impossible to know what the extent of the obesity epidemic would be without the efforts to combat it, but say the data doesn’t suggest there’s been much success.
