FRESNO (KMJ) -Fresno Unified, UC Merced, Fresno State, State Center Community College District announced a partnership to improve transition to higher education.
Superintendent Michael Hanson was joined at Sunnyside High School by UC Merced Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Charles Nies, Fresno State President Joseph Castro, and State Center Community College District Chancellor Paul Parnell to make the announcement on Thursday, June 2nd.
Fresno Unified and its higher education partners signed the MOU agreements that open the door to a new project to increase the number of low-income students who complete their bachelor’s degree.
This partnership builds upon the groundbreaking work Fresno Unified and UC Merced embarked upon in 2009 around equity and access for all students.
Using a $500,000 grant from the College Futures Foundation, the district is partnering with the schools to share data to increase students’ successful transition from high school to college, and from community college to a four-year college or university.
The non-profit College Futures Foundation works to remove systematic and institutional barriers to college degrees, enabling students to access the resources they need to complete their degrees on time and help California thrive.
