FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Immigrant children arriving at the border alone are more likely to be given asylum here in California, compared to other regions of the country.

More than half of the children who sought asylum in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the past 2 years were granted the right to stay, compared to fewer than 20 percent in Chicago and Houston.

Most were part of the surge in immigrants fleeing Central American violence, which has overwhelmed U.S. shelters and clogged immigration courts.
