FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Making simple lifestyle changes could mean a dramatic reduction in the risk of dying from cancer, according to new research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Oncology.

Abstaining from tobacco, not abusing alcohol, maintaining body mass index between 18.5 and 27.5, and exercising 75 to 150 minutes per week, would likely reduce cancer deaths by 67 percent for men, and 59 percent for women.

About 595,650 Americans are expected to die from cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society.
