Arsonist Sentenced in Blaze that Injured Fire Captain Pete Dern

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The woman responsible for the blaze that injured Fresno Fire Captain Pete Dern is on her way to prison.

Julia Harper has been sentenced to 9 years state prison, as part of her plea deal.

She admitted to starting the house fire last year, which burned 60 percent of Captain Dern’s body.

He spent 6 months in the hospital, and his miraculous recovery has drawn national media coverage.
