FRESNO (KMJ) – More than 1,300 students participated in Young Authors’ Faire, hosted by the Fresno County Office of Education, at the Fresno Fairgrounds Commerce Building on Wednesday.
The original writing of elementary and middle school students was represented, including stories, essays and poetry from 39 schools.
This year’s event honored the following young authors:
• Exemplary Non-Fiction: Teacher Stephanie Marquez’ first grade class, Sun Empire Elementary School, Kerman Unified School District, for “The Memories We Share.”
• Exemplary Fiction: Allie Balling, fifth grade student at Sunset Elementary School, Coalinga Huron Unified School District, for “The Wave.”
• Exemplary Illustrator: Ashley Esquivel, kindergarten student at Goldenrod Elementary School, Kerman Unified School District, for “The Dragon.”
• Exemplary Middle School Poem or Narrative: Leslie Quintana, eighth grade student at Orange Center Elementary School, Orange Center Elementary School District, for “Don’t Close Me.”
• Honor Book: Teacher Beth Liberta’s second grade class, West Fresno Elementary School, Washington Unified School District, for “21 Things You Should Say More Often.”
The top selection from each school was included on a podcast accessible at the event so students could listen to the audio version their book.
