The American Feed Industry Association is pleased to support a white paper from the University of California-Davis on greenhouse gas emissions from livestock.
The paper is titled “Livestock’s Contribution to Climate Change: Facts and Fiction.”
The document dissects animal agriculture and other areas that produce greenhouse gas emissions, with the consensus that the livestock industry is not a driving force in climate change.
The author states “Efficiencies in US livestock agriculture have lowered the industry’s combined emissions to a historic low of 4 percent of the nation’s total.”
The author adds that furthering those advancements will be paramount to meeting global demand for protein without depleting natural resources.
The EPA says energy production and transportation are the largest contributors, together equaling more than half of the total US emissions.
